The Sant Pau Biomedical Research Institute (IIB Sant Pau) promotes, conducts, manages and disseminates research in the health sciences to foster collaboration and the sharing of ideas among researchers and research groups at different centers.
The IIB Sant Pau also promotes cooperation with other public and private bodies and organizations, prioritizing activities aimed at strengthening ties for conducting translational research with an impact on clinical activity.
This center manages research resources from the various member institutions and organizations with the aim of improving health and quality of life by producing and disseminating scientific knowledge, training researchers to international standards, innovating in health and implementing advances in healthcare policy and practice.
The IIB Sant Pau aims to be a global leader in translational biomedical research and, thus, is committed to the basic principles of research centers: excellence, collaboration and multidisciplinarity, transparency, efficiency, social commitment and ethics, as well as ongoing improvement and innovation.
Recognition and distinctions
IIB Sant Pau is a member of the CERCA network (Research Centers of Catalonia) and has been accredited by the Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). Furthermore, IIB Sant Pau research groups are part of 8 CIBER networks (Biomedical Research Networking Centers) and belong to other research networks like the RIS (Spanish AIDS Research Network), REIPI (Spanish Network for Research in Infectious Diseases), RECAVA (Risk factors, Evolution and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases and their Mechanisms), RENEVAS (Neurovascular Network), ReTBioH (Network of Biobanks), TERCEL (Cell Therapy Network), UICEC (Clinical Research and Clinical Trials Unit), ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructures Network) and REGIC (Network of Clinical and Biomedical Research Management Entities), among others.
The IIB has created a research-support area made up of the Research Institute Management, Center for Drug Research (CIM Sant Pau), Clinical Trial Documentation Management, Radioactivity Unit, Tumor Bank, Animal Housing Department, Quality and Information Systems Unit, Central Clinical Research and Clinical Trials Unit (UCICEC Sant Pau), Clinical Research Ethics Committee (CEIC), Clinical Research Ethics Committee Secretariat (CEIC) and Innovation Platform i2Health Sant Pau.
